Medical Nutrition

Our department provides a comprehensive dietetic service to both in-patients and out-patients.  The service exists to improve the health of the individual patient by appropriate nutrition intervention.
  • The dietitian assesses the nutritional status of patients, advises on the appropriate therapeutic diets or feeding regimens and monitors and instigates appropriate changes in their nutritional care plan as necessary.
  • The dietetics department works within the multidisciplinary team hospital framework to provide inpatient and outpatient services.
  • The department also liaises with the catering department in the planning and provision of therapeutic diets for the hospital menu.
  • The department is responsible for updating medical, nursing and catering staff, on matters relating to clinical nutrition
  • Nutritional screening for all the inpatients as a part of initial assessment and reassessment of the patient at defined intervals
